Kieron McDonald is better known as the frontman for Melbourne's Rockabilly outfit the Flatfoot Shakers. He was born and raised in Australia spending most of his life growing up in the seaside town of Rye in southern Victoria. He spent many a night as a young nipper listening to his Dad's old Country records which led to other discoveries such as Rockabilly and Rhythm and Blues. Artists of influence include Johnny Horton, early Elvis and that great Sun Rockabilly sound.
Kieron lived abroad in Europe from 1991 to '95 where he was able to soak up influences (and some fine German beer) from the European Rockabilly scene. Upon returning to his homeland in Australia in '96 he started laying down the foundations for the Flatfoot Shakers by building up an initial set of obscure and classic '50s Rockabilly/Rock'n'Roll.
Kieron has now ventured out as a solo artist and has recently moved to Cologne, Germany to put together another band for giging in Europe. He recorded his first solo album for Rhythm Bomb Records in 2005 with local band the Round-Up Boys. The result was a fine selection of 50's Rockabilly with a splash of Hawaiin rhythm, the album is titled "Island Girl".
Before leaving Australia in early January 2009 he recorded some tunes at Melbourne's famed Preston studio, accompanied by a selection of Australia's finsest Rockabilly musicians. The album is titled "Beware Of The Swamp Man" and is now available on Prestone Records.
